Burger Meets Fries is a ficticious, satirical dating app created solely for entertainment purposes. The idea started out as a joke among friends; a parody of popular dating app, Coffee Meets Bagel. With the idea being a completely hypothetical product, I took full creative reins.
I started by looking at the iPhone apps for Tinder, OkCupid, and Coffee Meets Bagel, arguably the most popular dating apps to date. The common key I noticed was the presence of a quick, simple profile that gives you the details you want before attempting to strike up a conversation.
One thing that I definitely wanted to incorporate was a user-friendly method of starting a conversation or finding the next person, and I felt that Tinder best represented that methodology. The idea of a simple swipe to either show your interest or ignore the person who has been presented to you resonated with my love of user experience. Taking this into consideration, I decided on a 2-button system for a simple yes or no fork in the road. I used the fork and knife icon to start a conversation and ask that person out for lunch or dinner (hinting back at the name of the app!), or a simple negative peace hand sign to move on to the next profile.
With the website for Burger Meets Fries theoretically being a secondary source of information, I approached it much like any brochure-type, start-up-y website. I created a one-pager to quickly let the user know what BMF is all about, gain the users' trust with testimonials, and let the user know where to get started and find that success for themselves. With an app as the main product, providing mobile support on the website is a must. I applied a mobile-first mentality to writing the code for a responsive website on the live demo.
